ESR UltraFit Armorite Pro Screen Protector Review

I installed the ESR UltraFit Armorite Pro on my iPhone 18 Pro Max. The alignment tray and gold pull tab made it a one-minute job.

I winced pulling off a perfectly good protector to install this one, and by the time I closed the alignment tray I understood why ESR made it the way they did. The included alignment tray snaps your phone in face down and a single gold tab applies the glass. It’s a two-pack with Corning glass, and it fits both the iPhone 17 and 18 Pro Max.

I Felt Bad Peeling Off a Perfectly Good Protector

The old screen protector on my iPhone 18 Pro Max was still fine. No cracks, no lifted corners. I pulled it off anyway to install the ESR UltraFit Armorite Pro screen protector, and I’ll admit I winced a little doing it. Boom, bada boom. Gone.

ESR is one of my favorite phone case makers out there on the market today, and I’ve been using their screen protectors for years. So this one was always going to get installed eventually. The whole swap, wipe to final peel, took about as long as it takes to clean a pair of glasses.

The Alignment Tray Is the Entire Product

The alignment tray is the product, the glass is just the finish. Drop the phone in face down, close the lid, pull one gold tab, and the glass lands perfectly every time. You drop the iPhone in face down, it snaps in perfectly, you close the lid, and the tray holds everything in position for you. No eyeballing the camera cutout. No hovering over the screen hoping you don’t drift two millimeters left.

A short monthly email with the products I tested + actually liked. No spam.

Then you pull the gold tab. That’s it. The tab releases the glass onto the screen while it’s clamped in alignment, and it lands where it’s supposed to. Perfect install every single time, and definitely lined up perfectly on mine.

The glass is accessory glass by Corning, the same brand name on the display underneath it. That matters because an iPhone 18 Pro Max screen repair runs north of $300; a replacement protector from the second pack in this kit runs zero.

A Two-Pack Isn’t a Spare, It’s a Second Install

The second piece isn’t a botch backup, it’s a replacement for when the first one chips. The tray makes botching almost impossible. With the tray, that’s not really the risk. The second piece is for later, when you’ve chipped the first one and want a fresh screen.

Loading the refill takes about ten seconds. The tabs at the top of the glass key into the tray in exactly one orientation, so you can’t seat it backwards. Peel the protective cover, close the lid, store it in a drawer, the tray is now pre-loaded for the day the first glass chips.

My Upside-Down Trick That Isn’t in the Instructions

Unbox first: paperwork, dust removal stickers labeled number three, a cleaning cloth labeled number two, a squeegee for bubbles, and a little black case with two wet wipes sealed in a bag so they don’t dry out. You only need one wipe. Two protectors, one of which goes straight to the side.

Case off the phone. Old protector off. Wet wipe over the whole screen to pull fingerprints and dirt. Dry cloth after to get it properly clean.

Here’s the step that isn’t on the paper. Once the screen is clean, I flip the phone upside down and do one final wipe with the cloth facing the floor. Nothing airborne can land on it that way, and you’re installing face down into the tray anyway, so it makes perfect sense. I learned that over years, not from a manual. If dust does land, the number three stickers are right there to lift it off, but with the phone upside down I already knew there was none.

Then face down into the tray, close it fully, hold tight, pull the gold tab. A couple of small bubbles squeegeed out, final cover off, and it looked absolutely beautiful.

The Gotcha: You Have to Hold the Tray Shut

The tray does everything except hold itself closed. You need to make sure it’s fully shut and hold on tight while you pull the gold tab, or the clamp can shift mid-pull and you lose the alignment the tray exists to guarantee. It’s the one moment where the install depends on you, not the tool.

I also still ended up with a couple of tiny bubbles after the pull. Not a problem, the squeegee cleared them, but don’t expect the tray to make bubbles impossible. It makes misalignment impossible. Different thing.

Living With It in a Case

No case interference at all. I popped the phone into my burgundy ESR case right after and the protector sat flush, no lifted edges fighting the case lip. I absolutely love this burgundy color, and it looks amazing with the glass on.

Ongoing cost after purchase is basically zero. You have the second glass, you have the tray, and you reload it yourself. The only consumables you burn are the one wet wipe and the cloth. One practical note on timing: the listing shows over a thousand units sold in the past month, which is well above its three-month average, and the current price is below where it usually sits. If you’ve been watching it, now is the better moment to pull the trigger.

Who Should Grab It, Who Shouldn’t Bother

Get it if you’ve ever installed a protector crooked and lived with it for a year out of spite. The tray removes that outcome. Get it if you’re on an iPhone 17 or 18 Pro Max, since the same kit covers both, and get it if you’d rather replace glass than a screen after a drop.

Don’t bother if you want a privacy or matte finish, because this is clear glass. And if your current protector is in good shape, there’s no urgency here. I replaced a perfectly good one and felt guilty about it. Current pricing is on the product page.

Pros

  • Alignment tray snaps the phone in and lines the glass up perfectly on the first try
  • Single gold pull tab applies the glass, no hovering or guesswork
  • Accessory glass by Corning, so a drop costs you a protector instead of a screen
  • Two-pack with a refill that loads into the tray only one way, so you can’t do it wrong
  • Sat flush in my burgundy case with no edge lifting

Cons

  • You have to hold the tray fully closed during the pull, which is the one step that’s still on you
  • I still got a few small bubbles and needed the squeegee
  • Clear finish only, so no privacy or matte option in this kit

What we’d improve

Two small things the next version could fix without changing the glass:

  • The tray doesn’t latch, a simple clip to lock the lid shut would remove the only step where a shaky hand can ruin the alignment.
  • The upside-down final wipe isn’t in the instructions, it’s the single best dust-prevention step and ESR should print it on the paperwork instead of leaving people to figure it out over years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it work with Face ID and the Dynamic Island area?

Yes, mine worked normally after install. The tray aligns the glass to the factory cutouts, so nothing covers the sensor area. If it lands crooked, that’s an alignment problem, not a compatibility one.

Can I reuse the alignment tray with a different brand of glass?

No. The refill loads using tabs at the very top of the tray that only fit ESR’s glass one way. The tray is matched to this kit, so treat it as part of the two-pack rather than a universal tool.

What do I do if dust gets trapped under the glass?

Lift the corner, use the included dust removal stickers to pick the particle off, and lay it back down. That’s what the number three stickers are for. Prevention is easier though, wipe the screen with the phone facing down.

Will this fit an iPhone 17 Pro Max too?

Yes. The 17 and 18 Pro Max are identical for this purpose, and the same kit covers both. Handy if you’re upgrading soon, since the spare glass carries over to the new phone.

Loses 0.4 points because the tray needs a manual grip during the pull and I still got two small bubbles, trade-offs the v2 can fix with a latch. Skip it if you want matte or privacy; this is clear glass only. Clear glass only, tray holds perfect alignment, and the refill loads once.
