Apple MFi Certified Trackable Passport Holder Review

A slim Find My passport cover with a bold 3-year battery claim. Here's what I liked and what I'm still skeptical about.

The MFi certified Apple MFi Certified Trackable Passport Holder is worth buying if you travel with an iPhone and want Find My built into the cover instead of an AirTag slot. It’s thin, it charges on any Qi pad, and it claims three years of battery. Skip it if you’re on Android.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.

Quick Verdict

Every other passport tracker I’ve tested maxes out around eight months of battery. This one claims three years and is thinner than all of them. I love the design, I just don’t know how that’s possible yet.

Buy if you:

  • Carry an iPhone or iPad and already live inside Apple Find My
  • Hate swapping coin cells and want to charge on a Qi or MagSafe pad
  • Want card slots, a document pocket, and a SIM pin in the same cover
  • Want RFID shielding around your passport chip in crowded airports

Thin. Thinner Than It Has Any Right to Be.

Man, this thing is incredibly thin for what it is. That was my first reaction pulling the Apple MFi Certified Trackable Passport Holder out, and it’s not the first passport cover with a built-in tracker I’ve tested. It’s lightweight, the stitching is tight and even along every edge, and it sits flat in a shirt pocket, no bulk from the tracker module at all.

It’s vegan leather, litchi-grain texture, so it looks the part but won’t fool anyone up close. That’s fine at this price point; I’d rather have the Qi charging than a hide upgrade.

What’s Packed Inside the Cover

The right side holds your passport via a slit that slides the back page in securely; the left has three card slots plus a document pocket behind a flap. The left side gets a flap with three slots for credit cards or an ID. Behind that flap is another pocket for documents, so a paper boarding pass has a home.

A short monthly email with the products I tested + actually liked. No spam.

There’s also a SIM slot back there and an included ejector pin, which is the sort of thing you always lose the day you land. The front cover has one corner cut off so it’s easier to flip open. Not a big deal, but a nice little touch.

On the back you’ll see a lightning bolt. That’s the Qi charging spot. No proprietary wire like some other models out there, and if your phone charger sits at an angle, this magnetically attaches to it so that style works too.

Pinging It, Sharing It, Losing It

The ping is audible nearby but won’t cut through an airport terminal, usable for a bag at a hotel desk, not a crowded gate. Not the loudest I’ve ever heard, but you can definitely hear it if you’re nearby, which is really all it needs to do when it’s buried in a bag at a hotel desk.

Inside Find My you can share it with one other person, mark it as lost, and that activates the community of over a billion Apple devices to anonymously report a location back to you. You can also share access with an airline if it goes missing, which is a useful travel feature. And if you walk away from it at customs or a restaurant, the left-behind alert tells you to go back for it, assuming you actually see the notification in time.

The RFID shielding is real too. The material behind the flaps looks like what I’ve seen in other RFID blocking products, and I didn’t see it affect the tracking ability whatsoever.

The Three-Year Battery Claim I’m Skeptical About

Claimed three-year battery is 3.5× longer than any other passport tracker I’ve tested (the longest was eight months). A lot of them are only around five. So a 36-month claim stands way out from the field.

Here’s my problem: the thinnest competing tracker I’ve tested, which claimed eight months, already felt like a compromise to get that slim profile. This one is thinner and claims four times the runtime, and I have no engineering explanation for how that math works. I’m not calling it false advertising, but I’m not taking 36 months on faith either.

I’ll update the description and the pinned comment under the video as I keep using it. Here’s where I land: even if this only does a year, I’ll be happy, because a year still doubles what everything else gives me. If it hits anywhere between one and three years of true battery life, they hit it out of the park.

Bluetooth Only. Know What That Means.

This is Bluetooth-only with ~30 ft range and no ultra wideband, so no precise finding like AirTag and no GPS failover. This is not a GPS tracker. It has to have an iPhone, an iPad, or something running Apple Find My within Bluetooth range to report where it is.

It also doesn’t have ultra wide band like an Apple AirTag, so you don’t get precise finding with the arrow pointing you to it. That’s still AirTag-only and isn’t in any third-party trackers yet. And there’s no Android support. If you want Google Find Hub, this isn’t it, and hopefully they get that model out soon.

Pairing Takes Under a Minute

I was paired and tracking before I finished reading the box, five seconds holding the button, three taps inside Find My, done. No third-party app, no account creation, no subscription nag screen. Do it at home the night before you fly, not scrambling at the gate.

Worth doing before a trip, not at the gate.

Who This MFi Certified Holder Actually Suits

iPhone travelers who’ve already bought a tracker once and got tired of replacing the battery. That’s the buyer. The MFi certified tracking is baked into the cover, so there’s no AirTag to buy and no cutout to hide it in, and the Qi charging means no proprietary cable to pack.

It’s also been selling well lately, sitting around #16,626 in Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry against a 90-day average near #23,744, with more than 1,000 bought in the past month. And it’s currently running well under where it’s typically sat over the last three months, close to the lowest MVP has tracked it. Check the current price at the link since that moves.

Android users, pass. Anyone needing precise finding, pass. SpotMinders sent this one out for review, and I don’t allow sponsorships on any of my channels.

Pros

  • Incredibly thin and lightweight for a cover with a tracker in it
  • Qi and MagSafe charging, including angled stands, no proprietary cable
  • Card slots, document pocket, SIM slot and an included ejector pin
  • RFID material didn’t interfere with tracking at all
  • Find My pairing done in well under a minute, no app, no fees

Cons

  • Ping isn’t the loudest I’ve heard, only useful close by
  • Three-year battery claim is unverified and I’m skeptical of it
  • No ultra wide band, so no precise finding like an AirTag
  • iOS only, no Android Find Hub support

What we’d improve

Two things the next version could fix without much trouble:

  • The buzzer volume, it’s fine in a quiet room, but a louder alert would survive a busy terminal where you actually need it.
  • No Android version, an equivalent model that pairs to Google Find Hub would double the audience this thing can serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take it through airport security?

Yes, it’s listed as TSA-compliant and airport-safe, so it goes through like any other passport cover. The tracker is sealed into the cover rather than being a loose device you’d have to remove.

Does it need an app, account, or subscription?

No. It pairs straight into Apple’s own Find My app with no third-party download, no account signup, and no monthly fee. One purchase, done.

How long does it take to recharge?

About 4 hours on a Qi or MagSafe pad. You can check the exact battery level anytime inside the Find My app, which beats guessing when a coin cell is about to die.

Will it fit my passport?

It’s built to fit all standard passports. The back page slides into the slit on the right side, which is what holds the passport in place.

Can I use it to track something other than a passport?

You could slip it into a bag or a jacket pocket, since Find My doesn’t care what the tracker is attached to. Just remember it’s a flat passport-sized cover, so it’s not going on a keyring.
